Hello! I’m Emily and I'm the owner of The Cloud Space. Enjoy this super goofy photo of me with my ukulele and read on if you’d like to know a bit more…
The Cloud Space has been my dream for such a long time and I feel so lucky to have been able to bring it to life, meeting amazing families along the way. Here's a bit more about my journey...
I started my working life at my local saturday morning music school teaching early years music & other lessons (where I still am, 17 years later!) After studying photography at college (where I met my husband) I realised that early childhood development was my passion and so I started working in nurseries and pre-schools, becoming a SENCo and working in management.
I was using music every day with the children but felt I needed the freedom to develop this work further and so I took the leap and went self employed as a music teacher in 2018 running children’s live music classes, teaching the cello & the ukulele and also teaching classroom music in primary schools.
I started to long for my own music studio where I could run my sessions & teach from but that I could also use my skills & experience in early years teaching to run play sessions that would not only benefit the children but give parents a comfy, relaxed environment to enjoy a cuppa in! I wanted to create a space with no compromise for either the adults or the children.
The Depot in Weedon has the most beautiful buildings and I just knew the stunningly bright studio would instill creativity and playfulness, it was definitely the place for me.
If the last few years has taught us anything, it’s that we need community, and that community makes everything better.
The way we seek to build a community here is by making the Cloud Space a place that everyone enjoys coming to. The thing with spaces where kids come for classes and play is that they can be a bit, well…kiddy. The Cloud Space is for every age, and we seek to create opportunities for communities to form by putting on events and classes that offer the option for people to chat and get to know each other in a relaxed environment.
But it’s not just about the community of the people who visit us. It’s also about how we do business, too. There are loads of amazing small businesses in Northamptonshire doing fantastic things, and we want to use the Cloud Space to partner with them. So you’ll see that we stock products from small businesses in our shop, that you can enjoy tasty cakes and coffee from local suppliers in the cafe, and you’ll also see a big range of workshops and classes from other businesses we love.
Play has always been a huge part of my working life. I believe that play is powerful for everyone and the Cloud Space is a place that both children and adults can come to play.
It’s well known that play is an incredibly important way for children to learn, but we tend to lose this as we get older – adulting takes over and everything gets a bit serious: we start to replace our play time with to do lists and place outcomes and achievements over enjoyment.
And this isn’t just about coming to play café. This is also about our classes and other offerings and runs right through our approach.
